Why they are a saint

The venerable George the Builder was the third abbot of the Ivḗron Monastery on Mt. Athos. According to some sources, he was a nephew of Saint John, the founder and first abbot of the Ivḗron Monastery. Venerated as a monastic saint, honored for a life of prayer and asceticism.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take George the Builder as a patron when they bear the name George at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on July 28. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
