Saint Gerasimus, First Vologda Wonderworker, accepted monastic tonsure on March 4 (at that time it was customary to give a new monk the name of the saint commemorated on the day of his tonsure) at the Kiev Gniloe Dormition monastery, having been attracted to the Caves where Saint Theodosius (May 3)…. The Orthodox Church commemorates Gerasimus of Vologda on March 4.

Orthodox Christians usually take Gerasimus of Vologda as a patron when they bear the name Gerasimus at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on March 4. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
