Why they are a saint

Saint Gerasimus, Bishop of Great Perm and Ust′vymsk, was the third bishop of the newly-enlightened Zyryani people, and he was a worthy successor to Saint Stephen, the Enlightener of Perm. The Orthodox Church commemorates Gerasimus on January 24.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Gerasimus as a patron when they bear the name Gerasimus at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on January 24. As a bishop, he is also remembered by clergy and those who serve the Church.
