Why they are a saint
Saint Gorazd was a 9th century cleric from the Great Moravia. In 867, he was ordained into priesthood, as one of the most prominent followers and students of saints Cyril and Methodius, the Apostles of the Slavs.
Patronage / why chosen as patron
Orthodox Christians usually take Gorazd as a patron when they bear the name Gorazd at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on July 27. As an apostle, he is also asked to pray for missionaries and those who spread the Gospel.
