Why they are a saint

Orthodox Christians honor Habakkuk for a confession sealed by death. The Book of Habakkuk is kept among the twelve minor prophets. New martyrs are honored for a later-century confession of Christ unto death. His feast keeps a witness sealed under later persecution.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Habakkuk as a patron when they bear the name Habakkuk at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on December 2. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.

Prayer
