Saint Hellius lived and died in the fourth century. He was sent to a monastery when he was still a child. There he was raised in piety, temperance and chastity. Venerated as a monastic saint, honored for a life of prayer and asceticism.

Orthodox Christians usually take Hellius of Egypt as a patron when they bear the name Hellius at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on July 14. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
