Why they are a saint

Saints Hermus (or Hermḗs), Serapίon, and Polyainus were from Rome and were distinguished for their zeal in spreading the faith, and refuting the polemics of the pagans. The Orthodox Church commemorates Hermes on August 18.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Hermes as a patron when they bear the name Hermes at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on August 18. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.

O holy Hermes, pray to God for us.
