Why they are a saint
Saint Hilarion of Gdov and Pskov Lake, was a disciple of Saint Euphrosynus of Pskov (May 15). In 1460 on the banks of the River Zhelcha, not far from Gdov, he founded the Ozersk [Lake] Monastery of the Protection of the Mother of God. Venerated as a monastic saint, honored for a life of prayer and asceticism.

Orthodox Christians usually take Hilarion of Pskov as a patron when they bear the name Hilarion at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on March 28. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
