Why they are a saint

The Holy Martyrs James the Presbyter and the deacons Azadanes and Abdikius died in Persia under the emperor Sapor in about the year 380. The Orthodox Church commemorates James on April 10.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take James as a patron when they bear the name James at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on April 10. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
