Why they are a saint

Saint James had so much love for Christ, and so little regard for the things of this world, that he sold all of all his possessions, and distributed the money to the poor, keeping none for himself. The Orthodox Church commemorates James on June 13.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take James as a patron when they bear the name James at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on June 13. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
