Saint Joachim (in the world John Patrikios) was born in 1786 in the village of Kalyvia on the island of Ithaka to devout and virtuous parents, Angelos and Agnes. The Orthodox Church commemorates Joachim of Ithaka on March 2.

Orthodox Christians usually take Joachim of Ithaka as a patron when they bear the name Joachim at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on March 2. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
