Why they are a saint
Job of Pochaev is remembered as abbot of Pochaev Lavra, defender of Orthodoxy in Volhynia, wonderworker. The years given for this life are c. 1551–1651. The New Calendar feast is October 28. This memory is kept in the Ukrainian Church; his feast keeps the memory of that ascetic path.
Patronage / why chosen as patron
Orthodox Christians usually take Job of Pochaev as a patron when they bear the name Job at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on October 28. Those who share his calling as a monastic also ask his prayers.
