Why they are a saint

Saint John, disciple of Saint Limnaeus (February 22), lived in Syria in the fifth century, and chose for himself the ascetic struggle of “a shelterless life.” He settled on a hill, sheltered from the wind on all sides, and lived there for twenty-five years. The Orthodox Church commemorates John on February 23.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take John as a patron when they bear the name John at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on February 23. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.

Prayer
