Why they are a saint

Saint John the Clairvoyant of Egypt was born at the beginning of the fourth century. He lived in the city of Likopolis (Middle Egypt) and was a carpenter. At the age of twenty-five he went to a monastery, where he received monastic tonsure. Venerated as a monastic saint, honored for a life of prayer and asceticism.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take John the Clairvoyant as a patron when they bear the name John at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on March 27. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
