Why they are a saint
Saint Joseph Analytinus of Raithu was a strict ascetic. He attained such a high degree of perfection in the spiritual life that a light shone upon him while he prayed. He foretold the time of his death to his disciple Gelasius, and died in peace, before the slaughter of the Sinai Fathers. Venerated as a monastic saint, honored for a life of prayer and asceticism.

Orthodox Christians usually take Joseph Analytinus of Raithu as a patron when they bear the name Joseph at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on January 14. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
