Why they are a saint
The Holy Martyr Julian was born in the Egyptian city of Antinoe, and to satisfy his parents he entered into marriage with the noble and rich maiden, Basilissa. The Orthodox Church commemorates Julian and his wife on January 8.
Patronage / why chosen as patron
Orthodox Christians usually take Julian as a patron when they bear the name Julian at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on January 8. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
