Why they are a saint

Saint Karion lived in Scetis in Egypt during the fourth century. He became a monk and left his wife and two children behind in the world. When a famine struck Egypt, Saint Karion’s wife brought the children to the monastery and complained of their poverty and difficulties. Venerated as a monastic saint, honored for a life of prayer and asceticism.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Karion as a patron when they bear the name Karion at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on December 5. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
