Why they are a saint

Saint Lazarus the Iconographer lived in Constantinople. He was a priest, led a strict ascetic life and painted holy icons. He fought against all heresy, enduring many afflictions from the Nestorians, Eutychians, and iconoclasts. Venerated as a monastic saint, honored for a life of prayer and asceticism.

Orthodox Christians usually take Lazarus the Iconographer as a patron when they bear the name Lazarus at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on November 17. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
