Why they are a saint

Saint Leontios (Leóntios) was born in Monemvasia in the Pelopónnēsos. His parents were Andrew and Theodora, and he received the name Leon at his Baptism. His father was sufficiently wealthy and a prominent man. Venerated as a monastic saint, honored for a life of prayer and asceticism.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Leontios of Achaia as a patron when they bear the name Leontios at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on December 10. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
