Why they are a saint

Saint Limnaeus began his efforts under the guidance of Saint Thalassius and dwelt with him for a sufficient time to acquire the virtues of his teacher: simplicity of manner, gentleness and humility. The Orthodox Church commemorates Limnaeus on February 22.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Limnaeus as a patron when they bear the name Limnaeus at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on February 22. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
