Why they are a saint

The Holy Martyr Luarsab II, Emperor of Georgia was born in 1587. He was the son of George X (1600-1603), poisoned by the Persian shah Abbas I (1584-1628). After the death of his father Luarsab remained with his two sisters, Choreshan and Helen. Venerated as a martyr who died for the faith in Christ.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Luarsab II as a patron when they bear the name Luarsab at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on June 21. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
