Why they are a saint
The Relics of the Hieromartyr Macarius, Archimandrite of Kanev, were transferred on May 13, 1688 from Kanev to the city of Pereslavl because of the threat of enemy invasion. The Orthodox Church commemorates Macarius on May 13.

Orthodox Christians usually take Macarius as a patron when they bear the name Macarius at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on May 13. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
