Why they are a saint
In the second half of the 10th century King Davit Kuropalates constructed the Khakhuli Church in southern Georgia. The Orthodox Church commemorates Macarius the Faster on December 21.

Orthodox Christians usually take Macarius the Faster as a patron when they bear the name Macarius at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on December 21. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
