Why they are a saint

Hieromartyr Marcellus, Pope of Rome, and those with him: Martyrs Sisinius and Cyriacus the deacons, Smaragdus, Largius, Apronian, Saturnian, Papius, Maurus, and Cryscentian, and Martyred women Priscilla, Lucina, and Artemia the Princess († c. 310) are commemorated by the Orthodox Church on June 7. Venerated as hieromartyrs, clergy who were put to death for the faith in Christ; little else about their lives has come down to us.

Orthodox Christians usually take Marcellus as a patron when they bear the name Marcellus at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on June 7. As a martyr, she is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
