Why they are a saint
Both lived in Constantinople and were disciples of the Patriarch St Paul the Confessor (November 6), who was murdered in exile by the Arians. The Orthodox Church commemorates Marcian and Martyrius on October 25.

Orthodox Christians usually take Marcian and Martyrius as a patron when they bear the name Marcian at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on October 25. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
