Why they are a saint

Saint Martyrius was a monk in the Veliki Luki (Great Meadows) Monastery, and shared a cell with Elder Bogolep. The Orthodox Church commemorates Martyrius on November 11.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Martyrius as a patron when they bear the name Martyrius at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on November 11. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
