Why they are a saint

She was from Perga in Pamphylia, and married very young, to a youth named Domitian, to whom she bore a daughter. The Orthodox Church commemorates Matrona on November 9.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Matrona as a patron when they bear the name Matrona at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on November 9. As a monastic, she is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
