Why they are a saint

Saint Maura (Μαύρα) was a Deaconess and Igoumeness. She labored in asceticism during the first half of the fifth century at Constantinople, where founded a monastery, in which she reposed. In Greek usage Saint Maura is commemorated on November 9.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Maura of Constantinople as a patron when they bear the name Maura at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on October 31. Greek Orthodox faithful also honor his as one of their own.
