Why they are a saint

The Holy Martyrs Maximus, Theodotus, Hesychius and Asclepiodota suffered for the Faith at Adrianopolis, during the persecution under the emperor Maximian (305-311). The Orthodox Church commemorates Maximus on February 19.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Maximus as a patron when they bear the name Maximus at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on February 19. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
