Why they are a saint
Noted in his own time for his wisdom and virtue, he was called Eubolos, meaning “of good counsel.” He was among the first to oppose the heretical writings of Origen. The Orthodox Church commemorates Methodios the Martyr of Olympus on June 20.

Orthodox Christians usually take Methodios the Martyr of Olympus as a patron when they bear the name Methodios at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on June 20. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
