Why they are a saint

Saint Methodius, Igumen of Peshnosha was the founder of the Peshnosha monastery. In his youth he went to Saint Sergius of Radonezh and spent several years under his guidance. Venerated as a monastic saint, honored for a life of prayer and asceticism.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Methodius as a patron when they bear the name Methodius at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on June 4. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
