Why they are a saint

Saint Methodius, Archbishop of Moravia, died on April 6 in the year 885. His Life is found on May 11, when he is commemorated with Saint Cyril, Teacher of the Slavs. Venerated as an apostle who preached the Gospel of Christ.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Methodius as a patron when they bear the name Methodius at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on April 6. As a bishop, he is also remembered by clergy and those who serve the Church.
