Why they are a saint
Michael is the archangel, chief captain of the heavenly hosts, commemorated with the other bodiless powers. This is not the feast of a human being with a baptismal biography; the Church honors a heavenly messenger. Orthodox Christians invoke him as a protector of the Church and of the dying. The synaxis of the archangels keeps that unseen ministry before the faithful.

Patron of protection against evil, soldiers, a good death, Kyiv, several national armies, because he was a soldier.
