Why they are a saint

Moses was the prophet who led Israel out of Egypt, received the Law on Sinai, and appeared at the Transfiguration. The years given for this life are second millennium BC (traditional). The faithful still hear that prophetic word in the services of the Church.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Moses as a patron when they bear the name Moses at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on September 4. As a prophet, he is also honored by those who seek to hear and keep God's word.
