Why they are a saint

Saint Nectarius of Mount Athos was raised by his father, who became a monk at the monastery of the holy Unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian in Bitolya (Bulgaria). The Orthodox Church commemorates Nectarius of Bitolya and Mount Athos on December 5.

Orthodox Christians usually take Nectarius of Bitolya and Mount Athos as a patron when they bear the name Nectarius at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on December 5. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
