Why they are a saint

The holy hieromartyr Neophytus of Urbnisi descended from a line of Persian fire-worshippers. In the 7th century, by order of the Saracen emir Mumni (Mu’min), the military leader Ahmad attacked Georgia with an enormous army. Venerated as a martyr who died for the faith in Christ.

Orthodox Christians usually take Neophytus of Urbin as a patron when they bear the name Neophytus at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on October 28. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
