Why they are a saint

Saint Nicephoros was a dignitary at the court of the empress Irene (797-802), and then accepting monasticism, he became known for his piety. The Orthodox Church commemorates Nicephorus the Confessor of Constantinople on June 2.

Orthodox Christians usually take Nicephorus the Confessor of Constantinople as a patron when they bear the name Nicephorus at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on June 2. As a bishop, he is also remembered by clergy and those who serve the Church.
