Why they are a saint
The Holy Martyr Pancratius was a native of Phrygia, but lived in Rome with his uncle Dionysius after his parents died. The Orthodox Church commemorates Pancratius on May 12.
Patronage / why chosen as patron
Orthodox Christians usually take Pancratius as a patron when they bear the name Pancratius at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on May 12. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
