Why they are a saint

Numerous Christians were slaughtered during the persecution under Diocletian and Maximian in the early IV century, and Saint Pappias was one of those arrested for preaching the Gospel. The Orthodox Church commemorates Pappias on June 28.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Pappias as a patron when they bear the name Pappias at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on June 28. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
