New Calendar August 11 Old Calendar August 24

Why they are a saint

Saint Passarion pursued asceticism in the first half of the fifth century. He founded a monastery in Jerusalem. He was “chorepiskopos” [vicar-bishop] of Palestine, and a converser with Saint Euthymius the Great (January 20). Venerated as a monastic saint, honored for a life of prayer and asceticism.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Passarion as a patron when they bear the name Passarion at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on August 11. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.

Prayer
