Why they are a saint

The Hosiomartyrs Patermuthius and Coprius, and the Martyr Alexander suffered under the emperor Julian the Apostate (361-363). The Orthodox Church commemorates Patermuthius on July 9.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Patermuthius as a patron when they bear the name Patermuthius at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on July 9. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
