Why they are a saint
Hermogenes, or Germogen was the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia from 1606. It was he who inspired the popular uprising that put an end to the Time of Troubles. Hermogenes was glorified by the Russian Orthodox Church in 1913.

Orthodox Christians usually take Patriarch Hermogenes of Moscow as a patron when they bear the name Germogen at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on March 1. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
