Why they are a saint

Saint Paul the Simple of Egypt also lived in the fourth century and was called the Simple for his simplicity of heart and gentleness. The Orthodox Church commemorates Paul the Simple on March 7.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Paul the Simple as a patron when they bear the name Paul at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on March 7. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
