Why they are a saint
Saint Pelagia of Tarsus in Cilicia (southeastern Asia Minor) lived in the third century, during the reign of Diocletian (284-305), and was the daughter of illustrious pagans. The Orthodox Church commemorates Pelagia of Tarsus on October 7.

Orthodox Christians usually take Pelagia of Tarsus as a patron when they bear the name Pelagia at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on October 7. As a martyr, she is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
