Why they are a saint

Saint Pharmuthius lived during the fourth century at the same desert monastery where Saint John (March 29) lived in asceticism within a well, to whom Saint Pharmuthius gave food. The Orthodox Church commemorates Pharmuthius the Anchorite of Egypt on April 11.

Orthodox Christians usually take Pharmuthius the Anchorite of Egypt as a patron when they bear the name Pharmuthius at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on April 11. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
