Why they are a saint

The Holy Martyr Polychronia (Polychronίa) was the mother of the Holy Great Martyr George the Trophy-bearer and was from the city of Lydda (Diospolis) in Palestine. The Orthodox Church commemorates Polychronia on April 23.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Polychronia as a patron when they bear the name Polychronia at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on April 23. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
