Why they are a saint
Hieromartyrs Polychronios, Bishop of Babylon, and those with him: Parmenius, Elminus, and Christotelus the Presbyters, Luke and Muko the Deacons, Audon, Senes, Olympius, and Maxim († c 251) are commemorated by the Orthodox Church on July 30. Venerated as hieromartyrs, clergy who were put to death for the faith in Christ; little else about their lives has come down to us.
Patronage / why chosen as patron
Orthodox Christians usually take Polychronios as a patron when they bear the name Polychronios at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on July 30. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
