Why they are a saint

From the letter of the churches of Vienne and Lyons to their brethren in Asia and Phrygia, extant, though imperfect, in Eusebius”s Hist. The Orthodox Church commemorates Pothinus on June 2.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Pothinus as a patron when they bear the name Pothinus at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on June 2. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
