Why they are a saint

Potitus (died around 160) was an early Christian martyr, venerated as a saint by the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church on 14 January (or 13 January in the pre-2003 Roman Martyrology). The Orthodox Church commemorates Potitus on January 14.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Potitus as a patron when they bear the name Potitus at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on January 14. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
