Saint
Probus
Martyrs Probus, Tarachus, and Andronicus, at Tarsus in Cilicia
New Calendar October 12 Old Calendar October 25
Why they are a saint
All three suffered during the reign of Diocletian. Though born in three different places, the three were found to be Christians at Pompeiopolis in Cilicia, arrested together, and brought before the Governor, Numerian Maximus. Tarachus was sixty-five years old at the time of his arrest, but his captors showed no respect for his age, tormenting him as cruelly as the others.
Patronage / why chosen as patron
Orthodox Christians usually take Probus as a patron when they bear the name Probus at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on October 12. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
Prayer
